The integrator ghosted you

The shop that built your system is gone. They took the source code and the drawings with them, and the last backup, if one exists, is an .RSS file on a maintenance laptop nobody has powered on in years.

The program lives on a battery

Your SLC-500 or PLC-5 is holding its program in battery-backed RAM. A dead battery plus one power cycle and the logic is gone. There is nothing to restore. Someone rebuilds it from memory while everyone waits.

Downtime you cannot see
